So, I'm thinking of either building my own guitar or ordering a custom one...any suggestions on where to start?

if u have a local luitherer(sp?)(guitar builder/fixer) talk to them. they could prolly give u a lot of expert advise.

other than that ur prolly gonna need a bunch of tools n clamps to assemble the body

It's a hell of a lot harder than you'd think it'd be.

I'd personally go with a more simple shape to start out, such as a Flying V of some sort.

Fretting the neck is a giant pain for me.

Applying a finish is the easy part.

I don't know, I'm more of a pedal-builder myself. I always feel like if I tried to build a guitar, I'd screw it up somehow and I'd have wasted the money on making it.

By the way, this is the wrong forum for this.

One of my friends once made himself an acoustic guitar for his Graphic Design product and it was pretty impressive. It took him quite a while, but it was amazing looking! I don't know how the acoustics were though...
